Farmington State Normal School women's basketball team, 1944

Contributed by Mantor Library at UMF

Description

Fitness was important at Farmington State Normal School during the 1940s. The college adopted the wartime Federal Physical Fitness Program, designed to help students meet established standards for endurance, strength, flexibility, relaxation, body control and morale.

In addition to basketball, a greater variety of sports and fitness-related clubs were available for the female students.

Although sports options increased significantly, the women were still limited to playing intramural games. Dormitory, class, and department teams competed against each other. These women were the Junior Class basketball in 1944 and were the class champions!
