A poster from the U.S. Department of Agriculture promoting the seven food groups for a healthy diet. Established in 1862, the Department of Agriculture provides leadership and information on agriculture, natural resources, and nutrition, like with this poster.
The recommended food chart has changed since 1943, excluding butter and fortified margarine, and combining group three and group one for a single vegetable group. The other four groups in today's (early 21st century) chart includes dairy, fruits, protein foods, and grains.
