Description
Benjamin Shepard Judkins (1800-1878) operated a family farm in Palmyra, and served in the Maine Militia. After 1870, Major Judkins moved to Hastings, Minnesota to be with his son. He died in Minnesota, but is buried in Palmyra.
About 1845, Judkins sat for a photographer next to a stack of books. In early photographs, people sometimes included objects to reflect their interests or occupation.
