Description
A poem by "Quirk" of Whitneyville celebrated Abraham Lincoln's nomination and the victory for freedom over slavery.
Abraham Lincoln, and his running mate, native Mainer Hannibal Hamlin, secured the majority vote in the state by a margin of 32.82%.
Since Maine's admission to the Union in 1820, the state was a leader in national abolition and temperance movements.
