Description
Kiah B. Sewall wrote to his wife, Lucretia Day Sewall, in Portland to describe Mobile, Alabama, and the home of his cousin, Gorham Davenport.
Sewall, who had lived in New York for about two years before going South for his health, expected to go on to Montgomery, Alabama, where his brother Benjamin C. Sewall lived, and then to Pensacola, Florida.
While in New York, Sewall had been confined to his rooms for more than a month because of lung problems. He was out and about in Mobile. His doctor had recommended a warm climate for the remainder of the winter.
