Description
This tin container was used to hold gunpowder, produced at the Oriental Powder Mills in Windham. The Mills, which sat along the Presumpscot River, produced 25 percent of the gunpowder during the Civil War and was in business into the early 20th century. The company drew employees from both the Windham and Gorham communities.
The container was found in June 2009 in the foundation of one of the former mill buildings.
