Description
"This is almost, but not quite the view which, taken by Sawyer, has become famous throughout the United States. Mt. Tom, twelve miles away in Smithfield, shows dimly in the distance. A church spire in Norridgewock, five miles away, appears still more dimly. Note single wire, which was the only up river connection in that day, a telegraph line going as far as Caratunk. This is still in operation, but its use must have been larely superseded by a multiplicity of telephone connectiuons. Note absence of piers in river, where many are to be found at the present day.
