Description
This battered suitcase found in Rangeley about 2003 was filled with personal belongings of John Edward Barry.
The contents of the suitcase included a photograph of Barry's mother, his birth certificate, baby shoes, his graduation photograph and diploma from St. Theresa's Parochial School, a rosary and prayer book, and a class photograph and diploma from Mexico High School.
Additionally, a certificate of Barry's death in 1945 and burial on Peleliu Island, a purple heart certificate and military flag and a Western Union message advising his foster mother that his remains were being shipped home, and to make funeral arrangements, were also among the items contained in the suitcase.
