Description
The swing span bridge that connects Southport over Townsend Gut to the mainland in Boothbay Harbor was constructed in 1939 and rehabilitated in 1987. It was later dedicated to Norman Lewis and family in honor of the former bridge tender’s service in the 1940s. The bridge is notable for adapting Maine’s standard truss bridge design into that of a swing bridge and is larger than typical movable bridges.
The caption reads, "Southport Bridge, Southport, Maine."
The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1930-1945.
