Description
The photograph shows the commanding officer's quarters in the quarantine station at House Island in Casco Bay.
The quarantine station got its name when it was used to quarantine immigrants coming into Portland. The island was used for immigration processing from 1907 to 1937.
During World War II, the Navy had a large presence in Casco Bay.
