The city of Biddeford furnished land and housing for the poor and needy people. It was known as the Homestead. Local people called it the Poor Farm. Some were sick or needed a place to live for a short period of time, some died there and were buried at the cost of the city in the city's cemetery. There was a gardenand a few animals. The building no longer exists and the area is now now a baseball field.
