Camp Lown opened in 1945 in Oakland as a camp for Jewish boys and girls. It was among the most Jewish of Maine’s camps, providing a place for children to have an authentic Maine summer camp experience while furthering their connection to Judaism and meeting other Jews.

In addition to traditional camping activities, camps like Lown also focused on Jewish identity, offering education and cultural life.
