Description

A letter to A.D. Bean, Provost Marshal, listing the names of men from Blue Hill who were enlisted in the military during the Civil War as of August 30, 1864 written by the selectmen of Blue Hill.

The letter is refuting previously published information that claimed Blue Hill had only 28 enlisted men. Rather, there are 38 men enlisted. The selectmen outline which men enlisted, which were drafted and lists three men as serving in the Navy.

The letter was returned to the selectmen by A.D. Bean clarifying the exact number of Blue Hill men who had enlisted and the number who had been drafted into service and informs them that they have met their quota and that "Enlistments and Gov. bounties will be continued till further orders."
