View of Downtown Bangor from City Hall Tower, ca. 1870

Contributed by Bangor Public Library

In this view from the top of the tower on City Hall, the Old Toll Bridge crosses the Penobscot; the temple-like facade on the entrance is discernible. A series of business blocks dominate the scene, the long building in the background is the City Point Block, built in 1831-32 by Charles G. Bryant and housing sixteen storefronts; the three-story white building in the front is the John Sargent, Jr. Block, and the building abutting its left is Merchant's Row.
