Description

Everett S. "Shep" Hurd (1895-1976) as an older man years after he became well known for being the person who alerted law enforcement authorities to the presence of the Brady Gang in Bangor. Mr. Hurd was the owner of Dakin Sporting Goods Co. on Central Street in Bangor. Hurd grew up in Pittsfield and attended the University of Maine. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity where he earned his nickname "Shep" because he was chosen to attend or 'shepherd' the sheep that grazed in back of the frat house.
