John Fairfield letter of support for G.W. Pierce, Saco, 1834

Description

John Fairfield (1797-1847), a Democratic party activist, wrote to George W. Pierce of Portland in support of Pierce's campaign to be appointed Reporter of Decisions for the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.

Fairfield later served as a U.S. Representative, governor of Maine and in the U.S. Senate.

Pierce (1805-1835), an 1825 graduate of Bowdoin College, also was active in Democratic politics in Maine and was a lawyer in Portland.
