Description
A pencil drawing by William Goold (1809-1890) of the Wadsworth House and Store on Congress Street in Portland in 1885.
Written on the drawing is, "This drawing was made from the description given Mr. Goold by Edward Home, who occupied the store in 1805. The windows in the end of the house are not as the wall now indicates."
On the bottom is written, "The Longfellow House, Portland, as it appeared when first built. William Goold. Windham Maine. 1882."
Peleg Wadsworth built the home and store beginning in 1785. It was the childhood home of his grandson, the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
