Description
In 1910 Eliot celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of its incorporation as a town. As part of the festivities a tour of the historic houses of Eliot was held. The site of the home of the Hon. Andrew Pepperrell Leighton was included. Andrew Leighton, born June 9,1793, had served as both a state representative and a state senator, before returning to Eliot to serve as the librarian of the Eliot Social Library which was located in his home and served as Eliots first library. This library later inspired Dr. John S. H. Fogg to fund the building of Eliots William Fogg Library.
