Description

A letter of introduction for Portland merchant John Lynch to Hannibal Hamlin, vice president of the United States under Abraham Lincoln, and a Maine native. The letter was written by Jedediah Jewett, who had been the mayor of Portland and was a Republican, as was Hamlin.
