Description
The caption of this photographic postcard reads: "On July 23, 1870 fifty-one Swedish immigrants led by W. W. Thomas, Jr., arrived in 'Detutlofvade Landet' (The Promised Land) and settled in New Sweden, Maine. This prosperous Colony now including the towns of New Sweden, Stockholm, and the plantation of Westmoreland is observing its Centennial July 22-26, 1970." No other date is given. The card is attributed to Tim Currier of Caribou.
