Description
Made by hat maker Robert F. Somers & Co., in Portland, the box that this top hat rests indicates it belonged to Samuel D. Plummer of the Eastern Promenade area of the city.
Top hats are often associated with beaver fur, but this one, made long after the beaver fur trade had crashed, was created from silk.
