Contributed by Wagner-Higgins Family through Westport Island History Committee
Description
The ferryman took a moment to rest leaning on the back of a Model A Ford that he had just loaded for the crossing to Wiscasset, on the mainland. Westport's scow ferry could accommodate two cars and was the only way for cars to motor on and off the island from 1899 to 1950.
Red Bradley, a sardine fisherman, lived in the small camp on the point to the right of the ferry landing.
