Description
When visiting Maine, silent film and vaudeville actress Dorothy Dalton posed for newspaper photographers. The man with her might be theater producer Arthur Hammerstein, whom Dalton married in 1924. Hammerstein was the uncle of Oscar Hammerstein, of Rogers and Hammerstein fame.
Dalton appeared in over 50 films during her short ten-year career. She retired from the screen after marrying Hammerstein.
The Portland Evening Express often depicted celebrities enjoying Maine, visiting popular places such as Bar Harbor or Kennebunkport. Photographs of vacationing celebrities were also used to promote Maine tourism.
