Contributed by Northern Light Mercy Hospital
Description
The Mercy Hospital School of Nursing operated during the years 1920-1987, and educated over 2,300 nurses. After six months of study, successful completion of a preclinical training period culminated in the awarding of a distinctive training cap, presented at a formal ceremony.
The Mercy Nursing School capping exercises began with a processional, followed by the presentation of the caps. After students recieved their caps, they took the Florence Nightingale Pledge, received an address and benediction, and finished with a recessional. Parents often attended the ceremony.
