Bowdoin College medical students chat around the comfort of a pot-bellied stove at days end.

In 1899, Maine General Hospital joined forces with the Medical School of Maine at Bowdoin in Brunswick to establish a medical educational system between a hospital and a medical college.

The first two years of education was provided on the Bowdoin College campus with the final two years of clinical instruction held in Portland on Chadwick Street near Maine General Hospital.

This building still stands and is located next to Maine Medical Center's public parking lot.

Maine General Hospital is the predecessor of Maine Medical Center located in Portland.
