Description
This group of teenage Campfire Girls, ca. 1915, is called the Nowetompatimin girls. The last girl seated on the right is Estella Lena Merrill. Campfire Girls originated in Casco Maine in 1910 as a sister organization to the Boy Scouts of America. Camp Fire Girls became co-ed in 1975 with the name change to simply Camp Fire, and the headquarters located to Kansas City, Missouri in 1977. The Nowetompatimin girls were based in Dixfield.
Estella Lena Merrill Wright (1900-1959) spent her childhood on Main Street in Dixfield and was the oldest of 14 children.
