Description
This postcard is a view of lower Main Street, also known as route 2, in Dixfield Village from around 1920. Main Street heads easterly towards East Dixfield and Wilton. The home sitting on top of the hill is known as Abbott House and therefore sits on Abbott Hill. It was the residence of William W. Abbott who was Dixfield's tax collector from 1899-1902 and constable from 1900-1903. This building was lost to a fire on February 9, 1933 and was never re-built. At the time of the fire it was the home of Stanley and Isa Swan, who lost everything.
The middle house was the McGouldrick house, and the house at the bottom of the hill was the W. Putnam Undertaking Establishment.
