Contributed by Dixfield Historical Society

Description

This photo shows brothers Richard, Robert, and Cleon Jr. Adams in their Boy Scout uniforms in 1938. They are standing in front of the family homestead on Dixfield Common in the springtime with the apple trees blooming. The farm was originally built by Jonathan Holman, son of Col. Jonathan Holman who was the founder of Holmantown in 1796. Holmantown was incorporated as Dixfield in 1803. These brothers are Holman descendants.

Planting apple trees was one of the requirements of land ownership for the original settlers of Holmantown.
