Description

Located on 307 Congress street in Portland, St. Dominic Church provides a historical capsule of the neo-Gothic style of architecture seen in this postcard. The narrow and seemingly delicate structure of the church give it an ascetically lean appearance.

St. Dominic Church was the first Catholic Church in Portland, and its attendant population grew from 200 to 2000 by 1860. By 1887 there were close to 4000 parishioners, and the church needed to expand. The newest version of the church was completed and dedicated in 1893.
