When no longer needed for the MMC School of Nursing, the Alida Leese Home housed Maine's third School of Practical Nursing, which was operated by the State Department of Education. The other two were located in Waterville and Presque Isle.
The building was located at the rear of the original Maine General Hospital building. The first floor was renovated for use by the school and the quarters provided classrooms, library, offices, and a lounge.
The first class of 20 students was accepted for the January 1963 school session. Frances V. O'Brien, former Assistant Director of Nursing Schools at Mercy Hospital and Maine Medical Center, was principal of the new school. Other staff were a nursing instructor, a part time nutritionist, and two clinical instructors.
