Description

The caption reads, "The Colony from the Channel, Kennebunkport, Maine."

The hotel at the mouth of the Kennebunk River was designed by architect John Calvin Stevens and opened in 1914 as The Breakwater Court. George Broughton bought the Breakwater Court in 1947 and the name was changed to The Colony Hotel. It opened for the summer season in 1948.

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
