Description

The Saco-Pettee machine shop was built on the edge of the Saco River. Solid granite was used for the base and millions of bricks used to build these huge buildings.

These shops produced hundreds of looms and spinning frames and thousands of spindles for local textile mills. This enterprise became known as the Saco-Lowell Shop, and remained in operation until the mid 1950s.
