Eager to encourage well-educated descendants, Dr. Eben Homer Bennet wrote this letter to his grandson Eben Thorpe on Christmas, two months before the boy‘s ninth birthday. “Dear Eben. All my life I have mourned the loss of proper early training. I am hoping you will never know this real grief.
