Description

Gen. George G. Meade was a general of the Army of the Potomac in the American Civil War, 1861-1865.

An 1835 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he was a career military officer who comanded Union forces to victory at the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863.
