Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

Men, women and children labored at this North Lubec fish factory at the turn of the 20th century. The arrow on the photograph identifies John William West (1884-1979), a native of Coles Island, New Brunwick. Raised from 3½ to 12 in Minnesota and North Carolina, his widowed father then returned to New Brunswick. Records show that John was in Lubec in 1899 and married Helen Grace Price in Eastport in 1904. In 1921 he bought property in Harmony, living there until his death at 95.
