Description

This bird's eye view of Portland depicts two days after the Great Fire of July 4th, 1866. Black & Case took the photograph, and and G. Bowker put it in perspective.

The federal government provided tents to house the people whose homes were destroyed by the worst urban fire in the United States up to that time.
