Description

The Lubec Improved Order of Red Men Band Association agreed to promote Conn band instruments with postcards. Back row, left to right: Sim Frost, Gib Norton, Dean Cleaves, Lester Myers, Fred Cleaves, unknown, Ralph Guptill, D. Stewart, Everett Bell. Middle row, William Higgins, unknown, Deik Stewart, Charles Leighton, Hal Adams. Front row, William Adams, Bernie Stuart, Osborne Mahlman, Conti. Eddie Warren. This postcard was also printed without borders or advertising.

The derby hats worn here became popular around 1900, in a stiff shellacked style with rather flat brims. A softer, more comfortable style emerged in the 1920s with brims turned upward.

The subjects in this photograph are identified in "200 Years of Lubec History 1776 - 1976,” page 92. For other I.O.R.M. band photos see Maine Memory Network#s 31699, 31700, and 58174.
