Description

The incorporation document for the Pepperell Manufacturing Company, Biddeford, in 1844. The company was incorporated by Josiah Calef, Samuel Batchelder, Rufus Nichols, Jonathan Pring, John Anderson, Parker McCobb, and Charles S. Daveis. It was authorized to purchase and hold real and personal estate worth one million dollars, and to undertake all means necessary for the manufacture of cotton textiles at Saco Falls in either Biddeford or Saco. This copy was created the same day as the Act was approved by the legislature and signed by then Maine Secretary of State Philip C. Johnson.
