Description

A group of campers gather by a horse-drawn buckboard at the Tim Pond sporting camp in Eustis about 1906. One of the camp's log cabins can be seen in the background.

The buckboard was the only method of carrying campers, visitors and supplies to and from the remote camp and the nearest main road in Eustis.

Many vacationers at Tim Pond (and at other remote Maine camps) alternated weeks at the rustic fishing camp with weeks at one of the fashionable resort hotels at Eustis or Rangeley, traveling by buckboard at the camp and connecting with local trains or motor car service to the resort hotels and inns.
