Offset hewing axe, ca. 1860

A nice example of a welded steel axe, this is our first example of a John King axe with the imprint in the iron rather than on a paper label. King may have made axes as early as 1877. Information on John King and the John King Axe Company is available in the Registry of Maine Toolmakers on our website. This axe was located by Dana Phillippi of Liberty, Maine at a Burnham auction, October 2001.
Size: 6 1/2" long, 5 5/8 wide cutting edge, no handle.
