General Pershing's visit, Portland, 1920

Description

A cheering crowd parted to allow General "Black Jack" Pershing's procession to pass, on his way to Portland City Hall. General Pershing (not pictured) visited in Maine while on tour in June 1920. He spoke in several towns including Portland, Farmington, Brunswick and Biddeford. While in Portland, Pershing spoke in Portland at City Hall Auditorium (Merrill Auditorium) on June 3, 1920, to an audience of over 2,000 people.
