Description
Architecture commission for Lena G. McArthur at 272 Elm Street in Biddeford, ME, 1922–1925. The commission is associated with John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens Architects. This item is part of the Stevens Architects drawings and records collection.
Lena McArthur was one of the daughters of Robert McArthur, an Agent of the Pepperell mills. He gave the funds to purchase the McArthur Library's current home, which was dedicated in October of 1902.
In 1921 Lena purchased the home of Joseph H. Dearborn (1819-1920), who was born in Hollis, and came to Biddeford as a shoe manufacturer. He was associated with Simon Newcomb; and a partner in shoe factory of Dearborn & Shaw. He built his home on Elm Street in Biddeford.
