Contributed by Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education

Description

Hand colored map of Maine published by Fielding Lucas Jr. in 1824. This map shows Maine's then still unresolved northern boundary. Of particular interest are the bodies of water in northern Maine labeled Bunbgag Quobem Lake, Wabalabgis Squegannook Lake, and Abpmoojeene Gamook Lake. These labels are English-language transcriptions of Wabanaki placenames.
