Description

Branch Rickey was the bench coach for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1921-1923, which is most likely when this photograph was taken. Rickey is well known as a baseball player, coach, and executive, which earned him a spot in the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame.

One of Branch Rickey's most notable accomplishments was signing Jackie Robinson, who was the first African American player in Major League Baseball. Rickey signed Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Another one of Rickey's major accomplishments was the creation of the modern farm system in baseball.
