The Lewiston Historical Commission was established in order to prepare for the 150th anniversary of Maine Statehood by Lewiston's Mayor, John Beliveau. The Commission, which also included local historians Charlotte Michaud and Adelard Janelle, worked with students and teachers from St Dominic High School to document the place of Franco-Americans in the city's history.
One result of the Commission's work was the creation of the 'Centre d'Héritage Franco-Américain' in 1971-2. The other was the publication of 'Historic Lewiston: Franco-American Origins' in 1974.
