The Waldo-Hancock bridge, from the town of Prospect (in Waldo County) to the town of Verona (in Hancock County), was begun in 1929 and completed in 1931. It was built for under one million dollars and was designed by the engineering firm Robinson and Steinman of New York City.

After over seventy years of service, it is slated for replacement. The Maine Department of Transportation has determined that its suspension cables have deteriorated to a degree that it is not cost effective to rehabilitate.

The Archives holds the permanently valuable records of all State agencies.

This exhibit presents some insights into the history and visual attraction of the Waldo Hancock Bridge.
