Description

Roland T. Patten was an intrepid canoe enthusiast in the 1920s. This scene was shot near the Great Eddy just downstream from Skowhegan.

"This is about a quarter of a mile below the Great Eddy. The occupants of the canoe are R. T. Patten and Mrs. Geneva Smith Grader. They have come into the calm water at the easterly bank to have a chat with the photographer. A little later they paddled across, up along the farther shore and came down through rough water which shows a little beyond the stern of the canoe.

~ Roland T. Patten, Custodian of Historical Views, 1929"
