Description

Colonel Charles Wentworth Roberts (1828-1898) of the 2nd Maine Infantry was a war Democrat who led the 2nd Maine through three major campaigns and three battles during the Civil War. He retired from the army in 1863 due to ill health.

Roberts was born in Old Town, attended Bowdoin College, and spent the majority of his life in Bangor working as a lumber merchant.
