Description

A group of women engage in a footrace before a large crowd of their Squirrel Island neighbors as part of the field day races during Fete Week, circa 1905.

The building to the rear is the Squirrel Island Casino, a social center, theater, and dance hall. Constructed in 1887 or 1889, it served as the community center on the island until it was destroyed by fire in 1965.
