Robert Borland 'Bohemian' deposition, Portland, 1864
Capt. Robert Borland described his recollections of the wreck of the Bohemian on February 22, 1864.
The steamer, traveling from England and Ireland to Portland, ran aground off Cape Elizabeth. Two crew members and 40 of the 218 passengers aboard died.
Authorities in Portland took depositions from many of the surviving crew members and some passengers to determine what went wrong.
